“Beep Beep Freaking Beep”

Season 3, Episode 2

Image via Netflix

There’s not a single bad episode of Ginny & Georgia Season 3, but “Beep Beep Freaking Beep” occurs early on in the season, before it has gained its full momentum. The episode mainly focuses on Ginny’s struggles with Georgia’s arrest, which leads her to go to Marcus (Felix Mallard) as a confidant. He’s the only one that she’s told about Georgia’s past, but it’s also hard for her to talk to him about this, because they’re still broken up.

The whole episode builds up to a fight between Ginny and Georgia, in which Ginny runs off, but Georgia can’t follow her because of the ankle monitor. This episode does a good job of building the foundation for the season and setting up all that is to come, but it is not as memorable or shocking as many of the season’s other installments, and it works best within the context of the season.

“This Wouldn’t Even Be a Podcast”

Season 3, Episode 1

The Season 3 premiere of Ginny & Georgia picks up right where the Season 2 finale left off, with Georgia getting arrested for mercy killing Tom Fuller. After a two-year hiatus, this episode is the perfect way to pull fans back into the show. It sets up the main point of tension for the season, in which Georgia will have to go on trial, where the jury will determine whether-or-not she killed Tom.

Additionally, “This Wouldn’t Even Be a Podcast” sets up the struggles that Ginny deals with this season after Georgia once again becomes a major talking point for the rest of Wellsbury. Max (Sara Waisglass) is made to feel left out by Ginny and Abby (Katie Douglas), which becomes a major story arc this season. Additionally, right off the bat, Georgia and Ginny are united as a team when Georgia outright confesses all three of her murders to Ginny.

“The Bitch Is Back”

Season 3, Episode 4

The third season of Ginny & Georgia really becomes excellent halfway through, but the early episodes are still strong installments. Season 3, Episode 4, “The Bitch Is Back” occurs right after a major turning point. Paul (Scott Porter) has just learned about Cordova’s (Alex Mallari Jr.) investigation into Georgia, and he has completely switched up on her after previously being supportive.

The episode is the biggest outright hint at Marcus’ struggle with alcoholism, as he admits to Max that he blacked out during the dance. Marcus pretends not to love Ginny anymore as a way to help her move on from him, which leads her to start dating Wolfe (Ty Doran). Georgia and Joe (Raymond Ablack) talk for the first time she’s been arrested, and while Joe is still hurt about the way she handled his feelings’ confession, it’s clear that he supports her throughout the trial. The episode ends with Cordova bringing up Georgia’s other murders on the stand in an explosive scene.

“Friends Can Dance”

Season 3, Episode 3

Ginny & Georgia has always done school dances well, and “Friends Can Dance” is no different. There are a number of moments of emotional payoff through this episode that feel earned. Marcus’ problem with alcohol escalates, and Abby realizes that she is not straight. After initially getting some distance from Georgia after their fight, Ginny calls her during the dance in a really touching and sweet scene.

“Friends Can Dance” is still early in Season 3, before things escalate with Georgia’s trial and Max’s falling out from ANG. That said, it is still a strong episode, even outside the role it plays in building momentum for the rest of the season. It’s a refreshing change of pace to see Ginny making things right with Georgia right away and continuing to support her, whereas the previous seasons saw her rebelling more.

“At Least It Can’t Get Worse”

Season 3, Episode 6

Starting with Episode 5, every episode in the second half of Ginny & Georgia Season 3 is absolutely fantastic. Episode 6, “At Least It Can’t Get Worse,” starts off at Georgia’s rock bottom. Ginny and Austin have just been taken away from her, and things are looking worse than ever for her trial. Georgia is now the town pariah, and someone throws a brick through her window, which Marcus helps her fix.

Joe and Georgia finally get on good terms again this episode, as he shows up for her and stands by her when she doesn’t have anyone else. He is touched that she didn’t use his affair with Cynthia (Sabrina Grdevich) to help her defense in the trial, and she opens up to him about a number of things. This episode also reveals at the end that Ginny is pregnant, embracing the parallels between her and Georgia.

“Is That a Packed Lunch?”

Season 3, Episode 8

The eighth episode of Season 3, “Is That a Packed Lunch?,” shows Georgia faking a pregnancy in order to get Paul to stand by her side in court. As a result, the episode is incredibly suspenseful, with Georgia having to carefully act the part with Paul in order to stay out of prison. After a conversation with an unknowing Zion (Nathan Mitchell), though, Paul realized that Georgia wasn’t actually pregnant.

This episode escalates many of this season’s main points of tension, and some even boil over. The slow-burning romance between Georgia and Joe has been building up since they briefly met at a bus stop at age fifteen. In this episode. Georgia kisses Joe for the first time after realizing that he punched Gil (Aaron Ashmore) for her. Meanwhile, the rest of MANG have an entire bonding night without Max.

“That’s Wild”

Season 3, Episode 7

Georgia has always been trying to give Ginny and Austin more options than she had, so it is especially heartbreaking yet poignant when she realizes that Ginny is pregnant at 16. Georgia tells Ginny that it is her choice, and she chooses to get an abortion. The whole episode is incredibly moving, as Ginny fights to get a moment with Georgia alone, and Georgia tries to help her despite the limitations of her ankle monitor.

Because Georgia cannot go with Ginny to the clinic, she ends up getting Marcus to go in her place. It is really touching when Marcus shows up for Ginny. Marcus is still not ready to get back together, due to his struggles with depression and alcoholism. Still, he and Ginny are always going to support each other, and Georgia trusts this enough to go to him for help when she can’t be there for Ginny.

“Monster”

Season 3, Episode 10

The Season 3 finale of Ginny & Georgia is an excellent episode of television, and already, it will be a difficult wait for Season 4. The episode picks up right after Austin has falsely testified in court that he saw Gil murder Tom Fuller. Georgia is found not guilty, and the whole family tries to move forward after the trial. It looks for a moment like things might actually be getting better for Georgia, until her abusive stepfather and mother are shown driving through Wellsbury.

The episode also sees Max desperately reaching out to the rest of MANG, only for them to push her away. She ends up fighting for Marcus even when her parents are hesitant about the next steps. After Marcus gets especially drunk at a party one night, both Ginny and his parents see that he has a problem, and Ellen (Jennifer Robertson) drives him to rehab the next day. In the last scene, both Ginny and Georgia realize that Georgia is pregnant (although it won’t be clear until next season whether the father is Paul or Joe).

2

“Boom Goes the Dynamite”

Season 3, Episode 5

Georgia Miller falling to the ground and sobbing in Ginny and Georgia Season 3.

The midway point of Season 3, “Boom Goes the Dynamite,” contains one of the saddest scenes in Ginny & Georgia. Gil convinces Zion that it’s dangerous for Ginny to live with Georgia. Without even talking to Georgia about it first, Zion agrees to call CPS on her with Gil. Ginny and Austin are then both taken away from Georgia in a devastating scene as she falls to the ground in grief.

This episode shows the trial’s stakes ramping up after Cordova suggests that Georgia is a serial killer. While many previously stood by Georgia, she is suddenly almost entirely on her own, with nearly the entire town against her. It only gets worse when an old poem of Ginny’s about Georgia goes viral. The poem is used as evidence against Georgia, but Georgia talks Ginny through her initial feelings of distress. Just as things are looking better, Georgia’s kids are taken away from her.

“It’s Time for My Solo”

Season 3, Episode 9

Max Baker lying in bed and staring up at the ceiling in Ginny and Georgia Season 3.

Image via Netflix

The penultimate episode of Ginny & Georgia Season 3 is as good as the show gets. The episode is narrated through Max’s voiceovers, giving a look into her thoughts for the first time. After being excluded by her friends all season, all Max wants is to feel close to them again, while also preventing Marcus’ drinking problem from escalating any further. This all builds up the night of the musical, where Max is left feeling more alone than ever.

This is a really well-done episode that still moves the main plot forward, but primarily focuses on Max’s struggle to act like she’s okay all the time. When it seems like all hope is lost with Georgia’s trial, Ginny steps up to keep her from going to prison. She gets Simone (Vinessa Antoine) to represent Georgia, then she goes behind the scenes to concoct a narrative. The episode ends with Austin placing the blame on Gil.
